The demonstration, and resistance inside Yarl’s Wood, has been an important fight in Britain for women’s rights and for immigrants rights. They have been inspiring – because the people in this struggle are fighting to win the most basic of demands as human beings.
The oppressed can’t wait for the permission of the rich, and powerful, to claim freedom and safety. If we have learned nothing else, we have learned people in power concede nothing without a demand, without pressure and without a fight . We must speak out about racism and oppression, especially when it is our own elected governments which perpetrate such acts.
We stand proudly, and patriotically, against the UK Government on this issue of human rights.
