After spending £millions on consultants and a local healthcare review, the local health service commissars are no nearer coming up with an answer, let alone a good answer which might lead to improvements.
In fact the idea that services in Bedford may be improved is probably pretty low on the consultants list. Top of the list will be cutting costs and closing local hospitals. Every review has cost cutting as its number one priority.
Having employed management consultants McKinsey at a cost of £3.2 million it now seems the review may need to be done again. When will they learn?
We employ some very expensive managers to manage. If they then have to employ some very expensive consultants to tell them how to manage, that tell us there is something fundamentally wrong somewhere.
Bedford Tory MP Richard Fuller claims that the review is “deeply flawed”, and,”has an almost total absence of local support in Bedford.” I think he’s on a winner there.
Meanwhile LibDem Dave Hodgson, Mayor of Bedford, said, “This review has placed the future of Bedford Hospital as we know it under threat entirely unnecessarily.” That should worry all of us.
They want to close our hospital. If you are happy with that, then all you have to do is nothing.
If you would like to keep your local hospital, then you had better start fighting, because all those expensive managers and consultants have to justify the £millions they have spent. By cutting costs and closing your hospital.
