“Britain would join US military action against Syria”, Boris Johnson says in The Evening Standard, probably hoping the Standard article will feed nicely into #May’s Tory Story on leadership.
She is strong. She is a leader. She is May. Maybe Not.
But Boris then let’s the Cat out of the Bag further into the article.
“And if they come to us and ask for our support, whether it’s with submarine-based cruise missiles in the (Mediterranean), or whatever… it would be in my view, and I know this is also the view of the Prime Minister, it would be very difficult for us to say no.”
So there we have it. The person charged with making the decision on where and on who, we drop our bombs would find it difficult to say no.
May could not say no to Trump. Think about that. Then think about the “or whatever …”
Everything you have heard so far, in fact all you have heard so far, is that May is a strong leader. But here she is, according to Boris, unable to say No. Or whatever…..
If she can’t say No, she ain’t No strong leader. Or whatever …..
This is the woman who has to say No. You don’t want a Yes woman in Downing Street. Not if you think you are voting for a strong leader. Or planning to go to war on Trump’s say so.
“Launch a cruise missile, press the nuclear button, or whatever …..”, says Donald
“Whatever you say Mr Trump, whatever”, says the UK’s weak leader.
Do we really want someone in Downing Street who “could not say no”. Or do we want someone who can stand up for us against the powerful?
A Strong Leader could say, “No”.
I wonder where we might find someone who might be able to say no when they need to?
And just to compound matters Boris also said it on BBC Radio. Of course no one in the BBC batted an eyelid.
If Donald reads the Standard, or listens to the BBC, he’ll know that from now on, all he has to do is tell May to jump and she’ll say, “How high, or whatever ….”
On the BBC six o’clock news I hear Tory Laura ask Corbyn what he would do if Trump asked him to launch a cruise missile.
Corbyn replies, “I would go to the United Nations and work for a resolution to …….”, he did not say “I would find it difficult to say no”.
Who is the leader?
